Medical Marijuana Raises Tough Questions for Nursing Homes
When some states in the US legalized medical marijuana few people anticipated that patients using it would need to live in nursing homes. Now the problem is nursing homes´ administrators and regulators have a lot of questions about how to manage this situation.
Besides there is a contradiction because a patient using medical marijuana breaks federal law and the federal government do not consider a medicinal value in marijuana. Despite this, in 14 states is allowed and 8 states are considered in this moment.
Some experts say is increasing the number of patients that use marijuana to ease their pain but, the care facilities in which they reside, or will reside receive federal funding. So the facility administrators wonder how to comply with federal law and to allow the use of medicinal marijuana.
Other questions appear in case of the use of medical marijuana in nursing home would be allowed. These are related with the dosages, the inventories, the origin and the administration of the medicine and nobody has clear the answers or there is not an agreement nowadays.
